The House Hunt, by CM Ewan - Clare

The House Hunt has the premise of a great thriller. The blurb promises to play on our natural fears. There is a real sense vulnerability, fear of strangers and above all feeling this way in your own home, where you should feel safest.

As a main character, Lucy is quick to show her weaknesses and there is evidently a backstory to be revealed. Paranoia plays a large part.

Donovan, the house viewer, gives sinister vibes from the start. Maybe, had he been a little less 'textbook villain' the revelation at the end would have had more impact...

This was my first CM Ewan, and after my husband gave it a go and put it back on the shelf, it was my turn. To be honest, I really struggled with it as well - and I don't give up on books easily! I had visions of TM Logan, Harlan Coben & Chris Brookkyre, but it all felt very formulaic and none of the characters were particularly likeable. I suppose it just wasn't meant to be!
