Some Like it Cold, by Elle McNicoll - Paige

I was so lucky to get an ARC of Some Like it Cold last Christmas, and I immediately knew that it would be a tradition to re-read it every December for the next decade.

Jasper is the golden girl in her small town, the daughter of a wealthy and popular family, and has been a long-awaited visitor since her much-resented move to a college out-of-state. Everyone is overjoyed to see her on the weekend of her older sister’s engagement — everyone, except for Arthur, that is. It’s actually this long-standing rivalry with her former classmate that drives this story, alongside the constant strain of Jasper’s need to fulfil everyone’s image of her, persistent Autistic dysregulation, friction with her family, and her eventual goal of dropping out of college and never returning to her hometown.

Think Gilmore Girls but with a lot more oomph! I was honestly devastated when I came to the end of reading this, which only took me a day or two because I was so completely hooked from page one.

Some Like it Cold is a fantastic read, not only for the festive season, but for anytime you need cosy vibes, engaging conflict, and a heart-warming resolution. It is a triumph in terms to plot, characters, romance, and representation of Autism, and I’m so excited that the rest of the world is able to read it now!
