Homecoming, by Kate Morton - Olivia
Editor’s note: Spanning generations, out-of-work investigative journalist, Jess discovers a true crime book in her grandmother’s attic, laying out the facts of the murder of a family back in 1959. Somehow, Jess finds a connection between the murdered family and her own. Perhaps a cold case is the perfect thing to pull Jess out of her slump.
A tale of families, fractured memories, and the facades made by the people who care about us the most, this book follows the classic Kate Morton style we have grown to love.
This story takes it time getting off the ground, laying the characters’ roots so deep that to the reader, Halcyon and the mystery surrounding it starts to feel like an atmospheric piece of their own history.
The world building can be slow at times and you may find yourself wanting for a slightly faster pace at points. However the only reason for this is the urge to reach the stunning conclusion to this mystery, which has so much love and so many lies interwoven into it. A perfect example of the impact of family history and its secrets, Homecoming is truly unforgettable…
